Backache is a common ailment in the modern times. This is mostly due to the sedentary lifestyle and the work involving too much of sitting in chairs. The present lifestyle gives little or no chance for physical activities.These backaches can be put under control to a great extent by home remedies. But acute and chronic back aches require consultation of an expert doctor and strict adherence to the treatment prescribed.

Many of these simple remedies can be tried out easily. This includes oil massages, using hot packs, controlling food habits and adjusting the lifestyle. Ayurveda links pains in the body to the internal process of the body and its connection to the environment. Knowing the real cause of the ailment is just as important as treating it. Ayurveda is all about making you aware of yourself and your body. The same is true when it comes about back ache.

Simple Remedies for Backache

Oil Massage

Massaging the affected region with oil can bring in immediate relief. But make sure that pressure is not given to the spine while massaging. Ideally, the muscles around the spine have to be gently massaged. It is not advisable to have sudden movement of air while massaging. So keep fans and ACs switched off. For better results, one should rest after the massage and cover the body with a sheet.

Hot Packs

Applying a bottle filled with hot water to the affected area can bring in relief. Alternatively, sitting in a bathtub filled with warm water will be of help.

Good Food

According to Ayurveda, backache is caused by Vata. The body is in perfect health when Vata, pitta and Kapha are in balance. So it is better to avoid food that upsets the balance of Vata element. Ayurveda recommends reducing intake of from rice, curd, and lemons as long as the pain lasts. Lighter and easily digestible food will help the body to restore the balance. In the meantime, increasing intake of calcium can strengthen the spine and regular walk in sun will increase Vitamin D presence in the body.
Other factors that can cause back ache are extreme climatic changes, psychosomatic reasons, pressure on spine due to obesity and faulty metabolism of the body with discomforts like constipation.
